We took the kids out of school on Friday, driving up to New England Thursday night. Checking out race village ahead of the weekend was great! We hadn't even parked when we were passed by half of Team Dongfeng riding their bikes into Fort Adams. Then, while checking out the SCA pavilion we got some one-on-one time with Annie Lush, Liz Wardley, and Sophie Ciszek!!! I was totally star struck! We ended the day with 30-cent wing night at the Officers' Club and checked into our quirky, cozy room at the Henry Collins Inn.
Saturday, after a wonderful breakfast, we walked downtown and caught a boat to Fort Adams for inport race day. There were tons of people, but we still managed to get close to the Sailors (an SCA girl gave Katreina a visor!) and had a great view of the race action. We were even right there when Mapfre hit a rock after winning!
Sunday we headed to the race village early and parked ourselves along the dock to see all the sailors head to the boats for the start of the race. There was such amazing energy! Sadly, we had to start heading south before the leg start, but it was still a great day. And we were able to check in on the start action on our phones!
I'm so glad we did this with the kids, and I really can't wait until we can do it again!
