A little bit of everything

Today had it all--breakfast in the cockpit, bike ride, sailing, fishing, catching a fish, taking a walk, swimming, ice cream, good times with neighbors, eating that fresh fish, getting the most amazing gift of cookies from a neighbor, and enjoying a fireworks show.  I think we crammed it all in!

Bring on summer!

This weekend has been great!  We kicked off Friday night with a U-dock get-together, with dock neighbors new and old.  The weather was perfect, the food delicious, and the drink plentiful!

Saturday we sailed most of the way to San Domingo creek and dropped the hook for an amazingly relaxing afternoon of reading and swimming. After a superb dinner of grilled lamb chops we went for a dinghy ride and explored a nearby island before visiting with U-dock neighbors that were anchored nearby.  A movie closed out a great day!

Today we had a very lazy morning before heading into St. Michaels.  In town we played at the park, had lunch at Marcoritaville, shopped for salsa, and got ice cream.  Back at the boat we swam and I scrubbed the bottom and scraped the prop before making an epic batch of guacamole to go with our burgers.  Then I took to the paddleboard while everyone else took the dinghy back over to the island.  This was such a great day!

VOR Newport Stopover

Best.  Weekend.  EVER!  Or at least it's definitely up there!

We took the kids out of school on Friday, driving up to New England Thursday night.  Checking out race village ahead of the weekend was great!  We hadn't even parked when we were passed by half of Team Dongfeng riding their bikes into Fort Adams.  Then, while checking out the SCA pavilion we got some one-on-one time with Annie Lush, Liz Wardley, and Sophie Ciszek!!!  I was totally star struck!  We ended the day with 30-cent wing night at the Officers' Club and checked into our quirky, cozy room at the Henry Collins Inn.

Saturday, after a wonderful breakfast, we walked downtown and caught a boat to Fort Adams for inport race day.  There were tons of people, but we still managed to get close to the Sailors (an SCA girl gave Katreina a visor!) and had a great view of the race action.  We were even right there when Mapfre hit a rock after winning!

Sunday we headed to the race village early and parked ourselves along the dock to see all the sailors head to the boats for the start of the race.  There was such amazing energy!  Sadly, we had to start heading south before the leg start, but it was still a great day.  And we were able to check in on the start action on our phones!

I'm so glad we did this with the kids, and I really can't wait until we can do it again!

A watery reunion

After only a few notes over the past 16 years I finally reunited with my college roommate and her family for a day on the Bay!  It was so nice to relax and chat and get to know one another's family.  We waited too long!

TKD Rockstars!

The kids had their 2nd tae kwon do tournament and did amazing!  Katreina won Grand Champion in forms against some higher belts, got 1st in boards and sparring, and even went to the final round to battle for sparring grand champion!  Trent brought home 1st place in forms and board breaking, and 2nd in sparring. Couldn't be more proud of these kiddos!

Sunday Funday

Another beautiful day!  We could do anything!  The kids started the day on their bikes, the Captain knocked out a few boat chores, and I bounced between chores and the kids.  The whole family hopped on our bikes and rode over to the Chesapeake Deli for lunch.  Afterward we decided to stay put for the day.  The kids wanted to play at the beach and Frank wanted to continue with the chores.  I dropped the paddleboard and enjoyed the cool water all afternoon.  We played, grilled, walked--it was perfect.  And next weekend I hope to have a friend and her family join us!

Ah, May!

After a nice bike ride and the Boater yard sale we headed out to try for a rockfish.  No go there, but we did have a sweet day of sailing!  Came back in for the night to grill and watch movies.  Maybe more tomorrow?
