Man the ark!

Rain and tide conspired to make it very difficult for me to get on the boat tonight! So far all is well, though.  Tide is going out.

Up Weems Creek

We set out this weekend to try to catch a rockfish and enjoy a sunny weekend on the bay.  We headed north Saturday, picking up a Navy mooring in Weems Creek in the late afternoon as winds became gusty and variable.  In the creek we clocked gusts up to 25kts.  We even had a duck fly up onto our deck!  A storm passed through just as the sun set, lighting up the sky, but we huddled together watching Pirates of the Caribbean.

Sunday was a stunner!  Sunny, clear, and just enough wind for sail trolling.  On the way out of the Severn, Frank even managed to fix a slow drip from one of the cooling lines.  We didn't catch any fish, but had a great day of sailing.

We returned to clean the boat, get a start on the spring wax job, and enjoy a cookout on the beach.  Really just a great weekend with the family.

Spring has sprung!

I'm calling it, spring is finally here!  We waited out some super gusty winds (for the most part) Saturday, putting away some winter boat accessories and knocking out homework.  By 3pm we were getting antsy.  We plan to be away for the next two weekends and the sun was out--we had to go!  So between gusts we tossed off the lines and headed out!  We only used the genoa, and not even all of it, and somehow managed to max 9.2 kts through the water on a downwind port tack.  It was great!

We made it to our anchorage on the Wye River about an hour before sunset.  We were treated to an amazing show while we grilled dinner and it continued after the sun set.  We saw Mars, Jupiter, Gemini, and Orion.  We played Monopoly until way past bedtime.  It was lovely.

We managed to sail for a few hours Sunday before the wind completely died. The iron gennie brought us back to some good times catching up with the neighbors.  It was a great start to the season!
